Roffers is expensive but it is the best, they also communicate with commercial fishermen affiliates if they are in the area. They will also give you several waypoints to go to, I dont know anyone else that does that. Im not familiar with the service you mentioned but most of the inexpensive ones supply you with the data and leave it up to you to decide where to go. You can also purchase roffers on a trip by trip basis, I believe you need to call them the morning before the morning you plan on fishing. Another advantage of roffers is that satellite data is often inconclusive because of cloud cover, roffers will look at surrounding areas and use mathematical equations to determine conditions in the waters you plan on fishing. If you have a couple 100 dollars to throw at the situation you may want to purchase the cheap service and periodically order a roffers to see if it makes a difference, I bet that it will.

Hey thanks, I think thats a good idea. you can also purchase a 6 or 12 pack deal I think might look into that.

anyone use XM Weather service? I was talking to a guy yesterday that indicated it's very good for finding temp breaks and rips. The nexrad radar is also pretty handy for storm avoidance. My Garmin unit has the capablility of the XM weather but I have not activated it yet.

I have been looking at a couple different services and was looking for advice for which one to go with? Some are free, some are moderatly priced and one looks really good but very expensive. What do I do? spend $99. on terrafin or 2,000.00 on roffers? wait, I dont have 2k to throw down...

One of the best services around that i've found is Seaview, eveything wrapped up into one. I know more than a few very sucessfull fulltime captains that use it and wouldn't use anything else..Even bottom Fishing guys like myself find the service more than helpfull..It's more than just a temp shot and it's well worth the $150 subscription..Ken

agreed. the ability to pick up the phone and call Roffs and speak to Mitch himself is what sets them above so many other services. a quick mid morning sat phone call during a tournament sealed the deal on a big cardboard check for us in '08.....im sold.

I agree 100% on sticking with what works and all these services have there pros and cons..I found that seaview has alot more to offer in it's plan than some of the others but thats just me..Bottom line is this is just a tool, I try and count on my knowledge of fishing and years of keep logs of weather patterns, conditions ect..to put me in the right place. Alot of days it works and some days it doesn't but thats just fishing. Ken

Box, I wish I fished that much! I guess I'm just not that familiar with how the service works. I would probably purchase a few shots at a time, but the unlimited shots is 2k thats where I came up with that number.

I fully believe that the roffs looks like the best service, certaily not just a seasurface image but the whole package.

I've been told I'm a finatic about reading Temp Charts, Chloro, Turbity, Altimetry and whatever else helps me find the fish....

having said that...and this is just what I do...I keep an eye on Rutgers a week out, I also subscribe to Oceantemp for a fairly reasonable fee for my normal weekend or sometimes weekday fishing....this puts me in the area and I have a Southport so I can move around alot to find my exact location fairly easily....This is great for meat fishing or getting ready for a tournament..

Come tournament time, I purchase my shots from Roffs and man, his intel is a cut above everybody else I've seen or used. He puts you right in the spot you want to be in..the rest is up to you to catch the fish....

Turbity is a fairly new concept in the offshore condition game, but I think it's gonna be pretty good intel to have moving forward....

If you havent checked out Hiltons Offshore, do so. I have found it to be much better than terrafin (which I used to use). Has more information and seems to be updated more frequently. Very inexpensive for what you get. That said, for money fishing you can not beat Roffers and that is why he can charge what he does. He is aggregating a ton of intel and its solid info.
