Nice job of doing a video of your rigging. We haven't even figured out how to post one!
Just about everything has already been said above. I may just add one thing, in colder water we run a Zuker (or your other favorite lure on the end) as it doesn't get torn up like that squid might. When the water warms up and fish are more finiky, we put a bait with or without a squirt or islander if it's rough.

WOW! Thanks for the responses guys, thats why I love this site. Good feedback.
Let's see if I can shed some more light that may not have been clear in the vid.
I guess from what ya'll said they are most likely squidnation squids. They had a made in china sticker on the plastic that they came in. They were clear with a blue peppered plastic insert?? I took that out and put the cork in it them put that piece back into the squid shaped part.
On the crimps that stop the squid I just crimped it. I did not use another piece of line in the crimp. Great tip though, never would have thought of that. I do not know if I over crimped or not but I used the hole that was equal to the crimp size I used. ( i hope that makes sense)
I used a tri-bead behind the cork and in front of the crimp. I didn't actually measure the distance between squids. I used my arm.The distance between squids (crimps) is from the fingertips of an outstretched arm to my opposite shoulder. I figure it is about three feet. The squid is 12" so the illusion is 2 feet between squids.
I do have some more questions though.![]()
Swivel goes between the hook bait and the squid in front of the hook bait, right?
On the naked swimming chin weighted bally, - Is that the same as a regular hoo rig, but without the seawitch?
"Splitbill bally or inline rigged bally" - Dude I have no idea what that means. I hope my ignorance doesn't offend ya'll. Box can you explain this some more? I think I remember seeing a video about a split bill one time. Does that dive maybe?
Folks I really appreciate all the input here. My learning curve has been steep, and the people here at SFC are responsible. I just hope my lack of knowledge doesn't piss ya'll off.![]()
here is how we do it. If you are going to add a float to the daisy chain then do so inbetween the squid and the bead. Also if you are going to add a float we add 2 more inches inbetween each squid on the daisy chains. The shim is the little piece of line that also goes into the crimp
Hope this helps

good job on the vid byrd
gw273 is that a blue marlin caught on the squidnation chain?
I love to run a squid chain followed by a sea-witch bally on the short riggers during tuna time.
One small tip i would recommend is to rig the first squid or two dropper style, even if the others are not. I have found this keeps the squid from tearing at the front. Not too big a deal, but saves some pressure on the lead squid over time.
There are a lot of GREAT tips in this thread! I would echo many of them including the use of heavier mono, the swivel in the last squid, and others.
I don't think anyone has gotten to this question yet: " "Splitbill bally or inline rigged bally" - Dude I have no idea what that means."
This is two different ways to rig a ballyhoo...the biggest difference is that a inline rigged bally has the mono wrapped straight to the bill with the mono and bill pressed against each other parrallel. This rig is the most common and is usually topped with a seawitch, Islander, or other lure. A split-bill is always run with out a lure and the hoo's bill is split down the middle with the mono pulled up through the bill to resemble a swimming plug.
This is probably the worst description of these two rigs ever, but perhaps it helps. I'm almost sure you know these two rigs from being around here a while, but if not a quick search will give you more info than you can ever want.
I usually use a seawitched bally as the trailer bait on my chain.
Great job on the chain! Good thread too!
