    spring slide overs

I know I probably should wait until I see Wahoo at his rigging school, but I just have the itch to start rigging especially since the weather is nasty outside.

I was thinking of running 100lb snap swivels to my mainline. So my question is how many of you use those spring slide overs in your loops to protect the line from hook or swivel abrasion. I plan on running flourocarbon 100lb flourocarbon leaders this year after YFT.

    HMMMM.......

OK DAWG'.........ASK YOURSELF THIS ALSO: FLUORO IS "INVISIBLE" ...RIGHT? IF SO...............IS THE SPRING LOOP PROTECTOR INVISIBLE AS WELL? .....AND DO YOU FEEL ALL THIS GEAR WILL BE "STEALTH" AND WITH MINIMAL VISIBLITY AND DRAG? ARE YOU WASTING MONEY BUYING FLUORO WHILE ADDING MORE BULK TO YOUR TERMINAL GEAR

THE ONLY TIME WE USE CHAFFING IS ON THE MAINLINE/SWIVEL ATTACHMENT DURING THE BLUEFIN SEASON

BUT THIS IS JUST OUR OPINION HERE

    OTHERS MAY SEE IT DIFFERENTLY

I had several lures rigged with spring or plastic chafing protection but I just cut them off and am going straight to a wind on Swivel. I've been using two styles of wind-ons, the 240 Spro and the 150 Krok. The Krok is a relatively thin ring that I've crimped a loop onto. One thing I started to think about was whether this (the thin loop from the swivel pulling against the mono) would cause an early failure point by the swivel pulling/cutting through the mono.

points taken. I was just thinking of all the different configurations to run. Last year I just ran a 150lb windon swivels between the leader and mainline.

Just looking for a quicker way to swap out baits.

How many of you run snap swivels to attach your leaders?

I used snap swivels most of last year for exactly the reason you note. Because I often fish with a small crew (my wife and I), the wind-on had a lot of appeal. If the engineering would support a 100# wind on snap swivel, I'd be all over it. Because of concern that the wind on swivels might chafe, the consensus is to re-crimp/tie them on a regular basis and get some fresh line in there. I'm sure the BOX would phrase this much stronger than I have. I believe he said they re-crimp every trip, every fish.

The only time you need that chit Is when chasing big blue ones...There Is no need for It with tuna, mahi, & ect, ect....I never use the offshore loop or loop protectors no need for It crimp & loop the mono small loop Is fine no need for big azz loops....I dont think I have ever had the leader break at the crimp/loop section .....To much junk In the water keep It simple & you will be fine...

    does it matter?
Spro wind ons here. Keep plenty of leaders ready. Box a fish, cut the loop, slide the lure on the fresh leader, re-crimp and your back in business.
