When you think about all the sport fishing T.V. shows that you have watched over the years and the ones that currently run, what do you think are the pros and cons of said shows. What value did you get out of watching them? Where did the producers miss the mark in terms of what was offered? When you think about it, there are maybe two basic formats. Granted, these are not the only formats, but more times than not they are. One or two fat guys go fishing, they catch some fish and then hype some weak resort. The other format is a guy and a hot girl go fishing, maybe do some diving and then cook and eat the fish they caught. Oh, and how many times can we see the same destinations??? Where is the value added? What did we gain from watching.

What would you really like to see from fishing shows? Just curious

    FISHING!

Cut out all the BS. Don't blab about the brands you use and fill the show with sponsor crap.

Good shows that come to mind.

Walkers Cay Chronicles w/ Flip Pallot.
-It's a simple show with a very experienced and a genuinely nice guy going fishing. I can always see myself doing the very same trips he does, and I like that.

Hunt for Big Fish w/ Larry Dahlberg
-Another good simple show with fishing instead of other fluffy BS. He shares some tips and goes fishing w/ passion

The one w/ the mother ship in the pacific....can't remember what it's called now.
-The crew loves to fish and you can see it. Sure I'll never travel the Pacific in a mother ship, but it's still cool to watch. They have a true passion for what they're doing and are not just selling a product. I also like the cooking part.

    Spanish Fly.
-Can't say Jose is my favorite, but I like his style. He's good at all things fishing, and the show is always new and interesting.

    Tred
-He's a character, but puts on a good show. You see the ups and downs of hunting and fishing. Just normal stuff. No BS.

excessive advertisements on shirts and boats, and 10 min of actual fishing is a waste of air time in my book.

Show me knowledgeable guys and gals who I could see myself enjoying a day of fishing with.

Tell me a little about the techniques and tackle, then have a good time and get it on tape. Cook the catch at the end, and see you next week.

All the above people have a passion for the sport. That's something that you can't teach. They seem to me like they're fishing, not running a business, and that's a BIG PLUS.

I can't stand Roland Martin and his damn brand name blabbing every time he picks up a rod, reel, lure, etc.

He fished with a fella I know here in MD and was embarrassed b/c he thought his sponsors stuff was the best and he knew how to fish the area that was new to him. He didn't pay attention to the professional who took him fishing, and was completely out fished for the entire show. Pitiful.

A show that actually films where most people can go. We always see this resort or that resort, but how about some people fishing the bridge tunnel or the Norfolk Canyon.

Show the equipment used and explain why it was chosen. It does us no good to know that a 7' medium Heavy rod is being used if we don't know why. Would a 6 foot work the same application? Show the bait, lure, or whatever and explain why it is used or preferred over another type of bait, lure, or whatever. If using live or dead bait show how to hook it, and explain why it is hooked that way as opposed to another. As mentioned earlier, use what works, not just the sponsors product.

Show the target species and the area that is being fished. Explain why that area is being fished for that species. (If flounder fishing why are you fishing the channel edge and not the flat.)

Give a tip or trick that can be used to help catch the selected species.

Wrap the show up with a quick review of the fishing adventure and gear used.

To me if a show did that they would be highly successful.

I second "Hunt for Bif Fish" w/Larry Dahlberg. He is one tough Dude and is not continually hyping product. You will also se Him in some exotic locales and ougt of the way destinations. You will also see His screw-ups as well as His rewards. I liked the one last weekend where He jumped on Rob Brownings sweet rig out of Tropic Star and put the hurt on a nice Blue one, stand-up yet!

Addictive Fishing! My son and I have fished with Blair Wiggins and he gets just as excited as he does on the show. I like the locations and the production of the show.

Hands Down HFBF with Larry. He does it all, doesn't push products and produces. He is there for the show and for the viewer who wants to learn. He also doesn't focus on one species, he does fresh and salt, big and small, exotic and common, and you can tell he loves it and is not in it for the money.

More blood and less dragging the fish back and forth for the "clean release".

It was a great show because it had 3 hot babes in thongs. Even though not much was gained from the fishing side the visual effects were good.
