Jay, I am looking to get a set of 25's to do pretty much what you plan to do except out of wrightsville. Just curious as to what rods you plan on putting them on. I've been looking at the Crowder rods but haven't decided yet. Thanks
Matt

I will be putting them on the Okuma Tailwalker rods 6'0 30-80lb I think. Get them at cost and have been happy with the ones i have so i figure why not. But am considering going with a lighter rod maybe. What u thinkin?
Lighter rods for sure. I use star aerials (the cheap ones) stand up 5'9", 16/30s and 20/40s. Been pleased with them

hi-vis lines also help to point out which way to go when you get that cluster..... bring your rod tips closer together to figure it out guys, remember.![]()
now i am starting to get a little confused. why should i use spectra vs the mono. please everyone give me some input. i didnt even consider the advantages of this. my ears are open
well with spectra you get added line capacity and less drag that is caused by the mono's larger diameter I Suggest spooling up 3/4 of hollow core spectra and 1/4 either sufix tritanium or sufix superior. the other advantage of using a mono topshot is that when the mono gets chalky all you have to replace is the top shot which saves you allot of $$$ in the long run. plus now that spectra has been on the market for a while you can get cheap deals like on ebay. good luck and tight lines!

Simple reasons. More line at higher strength allows targeting bigger fish that can run longer and harder. Better abrasion resistance. No stretch, leading to solid rod holder hook sets at the strike, if fishing with reasonable strike drag (about 8 lbs on tld 25s). Finally, spectra is much "hardier" than mono and does not have to be replaced as often.
Drawbacks: cost and, according to some, safety, as running braid can cut more than running mono. I don't believe that to be an issue with "heavier" 50 lb + spectra.
I use braid and know that some of the finest trolling captains in our area are making the switch.
Good luck,
SeaBiscuit
I've been considering swiching a couple of my TLD 25s over to braid, let me ask a newbie question. If I have my strike setting at the "recommended" 1/3 breaking strength of my line using mono, should my strike setting be lower when using braid? I would think so since there wont be the stretch as with mono.
Ah the Biscito has spoken:
No one has mentioned the best application of this "cuss till you get back to the dock stuff if it fouls":
It has no (zero) stretch---
Mr. Wahoo or yellowbelly comes up, takes a swipe but no cigar--- a little banjo playing on the Spectra and he'll be right back on it--- done it too many times--- it works 7 times out of 10. My absolute favorite meat fish set up-- Tiagra 50 NARROW, spooled all the way to leader with Spectra.
No comment on using it on a TLD
It's not for everything, and is a PIA if you get a wind knort in it, but it is good shit for when you need to get a quick reaction on your trolled ballyhoo
No credit to me-- Capt. Brian Harrington and Marty showed me this marvel on a trolled bait

I'm with you on this one SeaBiscuit. I like the additional line capacity (in case you get into a bigger one than you expected), the additional feel that you get on the fish, and the most important in my opinion is the smaller diameter means that if you are on a big fish and it strips a few hundred yards of line off, the belly won't be as big which gives you a better chance of landing that fish.
