I am looking forward to this dicussion. I am very confused about the whole braid / mono / topshot/ backing / wind on / wire / whatever! Its freaking exhausting!

I just bought some new Avet LX's and trying to figure out how to spool them has me paralyzed!

I WOULD SPOOL IT WITH ANY OLKD "BRAID" CLASS LINE...BRAND NAME DOESN'T MEAN TOO MUCH HERE.....

FIRST A SHORT SHOT OF MONO ON THE SPOOL...THEN YOUR "BRAID".......BUT HERE IS WHERE I GO DIRECTLY TO A SPRO BARREL #80 OR AN INLINE.....I USE A TOPSHOT LEADER TO HOOK APPX 35 FT -50 FT .....LEADER IS 80-100 LB DEPEMDING OPN TARGET.....I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT IGFA CRAP FUNFISHING

Put some mono backing down first then connect it to either tufline xp 130or xp 150,Power Pro 100 or 150. You will Probably be able to hold 700yds of braid on this reel.

I ran my long riggers with the spectra top shot - about 150 yards of it - last season and it worked like you said. Quick set up, either hit or miss. Although the notion of having a glove close by is a serious one. We hooked a nice marlin on a spectra top shot and after a battle he took another run and cut through a left glove before I realized it.

Who's got the best $ on spectra?

I had heavy backing plates put in for the SNIPER. She pulls pretty hard with the big Salty. Gonna try to abuse the I 80 another year. But you were right about the drags, she doesn't have what it takes to do it right. Slips and burns. You hear of I 80 modification or is the TIAGRA 80 the only remedy?

Crow just back from the honeymoon in Mexico...no fishy...too windy. I don't think he is gonna be able to handle the bait &%((!)) position anymore. Gonna be a strange season.

I am thinking of putting 100 lb braid on this reel for bottom fishing 100-300 ft . I have a Crowder 50T rod with a bent butt. Will this make a decent setup. I really do not have the $$$$ for a new reel. Will the TLD50IILRSA hold up to the vigors of dropping. At least it is a 2 speed..

Do not use braid on TLD's

The reels seat cannot handle the torque with moderate drag under 18 lbs if the fish turns and runs sideways and the angler does not respond right away. Use a top quality 60 lb mono which these reels are made for or even 50lb as you cannot put much more than 18 lbs of drag on these reels. If you want the extra line capacity go with a 30 or 50 Tiagra with the one piece frame or one of the other reels made for braid lines. I know of a couple that just came apart on swords and tuna last season.
