If money was no issue, this is the reel I would have hands down.
I can dream can't I?![]()

For the money the new stradics are very nice. I still would pay the 10.00 to smooth drags to upgrade to carbon fiber washers. As Matt mentioned, I have a stradic that I've taken to hell and back--been through two spools and four drag sets. Internally the reel is ship shape. I took the spool and cleaned it well, and fitted it with the carbontex washers lightly coated with teflon grease. This gives a 20% drag increase in mine, makes the drag very saltwater resistant, doesn't heat up as bad, and once again reduces cost significantly. Not a bad way to go below 250.00. Shimano just introduced a new line called saragosa, i have not played with any but they are supposed to be aimed at exactly this market, and make it up to a 16 or 18,000 size. The stradics only go to an 8000 size. I don't know about the new sustains, but the old ones were not worth the extra money over a stradic.
Cheers,
Arlen
