I exit the needle right at or slightly closer to the loop by about 1/8" you can slide the outer shield down a little if you want.....Mark

I wish I could have done the video in the full 13 minutes but the video server I use wont let me post any video over 10 minutes so I had to break it into two Videos.

Sounds good...so when you exit and pull the tag end back through there is an 1/8" or less that is on the outside of the spectra just at that point and that helps lock the joint or can't hurt i suppose...... great vid work by the way

Wow, thanks a ton! Just did it on 200 pound dacron. How would you attach a 100 yard, 200 pound top shot to a loop to loop? Or would you splice that in?

There are two ways that work . One would be to forget the loop on the Dacron and run your mono straight up the inside of Dacron or spectra between 4 and 6 ft then glue and whip the end of the Dacron. You can do this with or without a windon needle. You can just round the end of the mono and feed it into the Dacron or spectra. The second would be to make a 100yd topshot windon and do a double catspaw to connect the two loops. I like the second option because you can change the topshot on the boat if you need too....Mark

The videos over lap just a little so you can continue where you left off in the first video.

    Mark,

Excellent videos. These are the best I've seen for making spliced end loops in hollow-weave line. A key, that you mentioned, is making sure that you don't "catch" any threads when you poke the doubled wire through the side.

For those who haven't made these spliced end-loops yet, although the videos total about 15 minutes, it only takes two minutes to make an end-loop with 2 X 12" splices.

Another note, in spectra the end-loop is 100% strong with two 3" splices, so 12" has a lot of redundancy.

For spin casting applications, I like a 2" loop so that there is no risk of the loop catch on a guide. But sizing for 2" or 6" as you show is easy. If you make a 2" loop, the splice nearest the loop can be temporarily slid down the mainline to enlarge the loop's size to get something big through, just remember to smooth it closed after you've made a loop to loop connection.

    Well done!

Very well done, Mark. Makes building that type of connection what it should be - simple, not some kind of mysterious mumbo jumbo known only to a few.

The only place where I differ from some here is that I put my snap swivels (or just swivels only for tournament fishing) at the top of my lure leaders, not at the top of the wind-on. I am not a fan of swivels going onto the rod. I am, however, a huge fan of wind-ons and have been for decades.

Thank you for the nice, professional job.
