Speaking fishing - slang terms for a Greenie

This thread is motivated by a friend of mine who I took fishing last fall and has been infected with the never ending desire to eat, breathe, and sleep fishing.

He is brand spanking new to the sport. He has just joined the site (Heratio Hornblower) after I told him how much it could shorten his learning curve and has a serious thirst for knowledge. Well ... I try to talk to him about stuff and one of the biggest challenges is that he does not understand the "language" re: Hoo, daisy chain, slob, mercury missle, fluoro, circle hook ... you get the point. I didnt realize ... being in the middle of it all ... how many slang and foreign terms there are in fishing if you are new to the sport.

So ... HELP ME AND HERATIO OUT HERE!!! Any terms that you can think of that might be foreign to somebody new to the sport? Write them on this thread so he and many other new fishermen can log on and learn to speak the language. In fact ... a glossary of terms would be an AWESOME and fun addition to the site!

Gaff ... A large hook on a rigid pole used to get the fish in the boat from the water.

dump rod=a bak up rod and reel with heavier line and more compacity used to attatch to a reel that is getting dumped

getting dumped=fish is empying your reel and is not stopping

Dink bait...small of medium necked ballyhoo, used for dropping back to a fish in your spread

Dropping back...the ART of letting your bait back to a fish that has hit your bait and missed

Flat Line - Line run off the rod tip or transom clip

Short Rigger - inside (short) line on 2 line outriggers
Long Rigger - outside (long) line on 2 line outriggers
Left - Facing the transom, the left side
Right - Facing the transom, the right side

Mercuy Missle - King Makeral
Fluoro - Slang for Fluoro Carbon Leader material
Mono - Slang for ummmm ... Mono
Braid - Braided fishing line
Monel - As Kleenex is to Tissue ... Monel is to rigging wire
Man in the blue suit - Blue Marlin
Man in the Grey suit- Shark
WWB - The lure you put way way back behind your boat in a trolling spread.
Outrigger- Pole that extends to the sides of your boat so that you may troll more lures without tangling them
Lure - Artificial bait designed to catch fish
Downrigger - A unit with a weight and a release clip designed to get your trolled lures down into a deeper water column.
