SPANISH MACKEREL BAITS
Looking for something other than Clark spoons to catch small Spanish. Clark's spoons are just to expensive.
Any body ever try little beetle spins or some other little baits. What do the commercial guys use ? Thanks, Capt Rick Last edited by rarhomes; 10-20-2009 at 06:45 PM. |

I've used tube lures with gold hooks - pretty easy to make yourself...
But I catch way more fish with Clark spoons... |

Clark spoons rule. Had 4 of the smallest size under $2.80 each land over 200 sp. macks with the boys. Cleaned the spoons used a little oil and caught blues later. An expensive bait is one that doesn't catch fish. Good luck!!!

A 3" silver or clear squid skirt with a bead and a small gold hook work great, or you can buy the Bluewater Candy squid trees with three hooks. We caught many many triples on those three hook rigs.

McDonalds straws...
cant believe noone said this...Mc straws cut 2 and 1/2 inches long on dropper loops, like six, and then a spoon rigged on 50lb. Use long shank hooks. 4 or 5 at a time...

You can also go to any freshwater fishing store and buy the little rooster tail lures that have the bucktail and spinner on them. They work great also, but change the hooks to a stronger one. Tsunami also makes a cheaper version for like $1.00/lure also. |
