Is there going to be one? Down here in Florida I keep hearing RUMORS of makos on the protected list and no more threesher fishing cause of to many dead females. Does anyone know what is really going on?

Heard Jersey not in compliance with coastal sharks and may lose them... Hadn't heard about Mako and Threshers though. I know that mako did make it on a fed list of over fished but no action I know of to this point.![]()
guess we should sit at the dock and not fish at all. but still pay for that new fishing lis of $400.00 and $250.00=$650.00 for charter boats.
Thanks Russ.
ONE DAY I HOPE SOME WILL TRULY UNDERSTAND AS TO WHY I GET SO UPSET AT THE CIRCE HOOK/MEAT RULING
HELL CUT ALL THE BARBS OFF AND OPEN THE EYE UP AND SOAK THE HOOK IN IRON OXIDE, I COULD CARE LESS ....BUT
IT'S THE TAKE AND THEY TAKE AND THEY TAKE AND THEY TAKE.
HOPEFULLY ONE DAY ALL THE TAKERS WILL LOSE THEIR JOBS AND BE FORCED TO STREET BEGGING AND BECOME HOMELESS
I didnt see a lack of Makos this year along the MD coast, in five trips shark fishing this year we caught 12 makos and 1 tune fishing.
The day the non-typical caught the new MD state record, i think the released 5 or 6 makos along with killing that big momma.
hopefully these number will keep up and the spicies can stay resilient. hopefully some more research is done and we can come up with a good way to keep the species population healthy as well as people happy fishing.

I think the size limit on makos should be larger. You shouldnt be able to kill a 50lb mako. I think they should have to be 200 to kill. Last year I only went twice in the shark tourney and I think we caught four the biggest one being about 120. It is nowhere near the fishery that it was ten years ago I can say that.

You're spot on with the size going down. Year before last we had 26 total with only two busting 150 and the biggest being 165. Way high numbers but almost all rats. If I had 26 in other years going back at least a hand full would have pushed or broke 200.
Last year the north end went quiet. I mean real quiet. Five fish for six days and 112 taking money was sickening...
Not only Makos but you dont see the blue fish and the blue sharks like you use to either. Im not one to preach over fishing cause Im not sure if that is the case but something Is wrong here. Did the migratory pattern change are they in deeper water, are they passing offshore in the canyons? I dont know.
