funny but after a several year absence, blue sharks were ass deep in OCMD this past year. makos were all on the small side though, but there were good numbers.

I have a fear that taking a mako for the table will become athing of the past here soon.

There was a conspicuous absence of blue fish on the north end this year. They showed really early like in April then were gone. Barnegat ridge 45 miles south was the nearest concentration of em.
I did find the blue sharks though in some of my better mako spots where I don't usually see em. One day I'm guessing we had 25 on one of my favorite mako spots. Could see one keep er mako in the swarm but couldn't get a bait to him.

we only killed two this year

    both around 175-200#

we caught so many blue sharks this year it was unbelievable

and during mako mania we had a terrible day at a proven mako spot

NJ moving forward on shark issue

The NJ Marine council has issued a closure of
Large Coastal Sharks (bull, hammerheads, nurse, sandbar, tiger, et. al.) during the spring "pupping" season

This was one of the issues involved.

    Small Makos

We also did well on makos but all small ones. Maybe 2 were legal. All were released.
