.....and some days are STONES.....Unfortunatly we had the latter today.....
With a Perfect forcast we motored away from our slip loaded up for a wahoo slaying. As we made our way into the sound i knew we were in for a treat on the sea conditions "SlickCam". As we made the inlet the stars were shining brightly and there was no moon. We could see the entire shipping channel out to the sea bouy.
With a 25kt ride out we had our first line in by around 725 we set out on about the 515 or so. On some scatterd grass. Nice looking spread and a planer pole.
First Hour goes by not a sniff....worked north hoping to get a bite.... working deep out to the 100 and beyond with hot hot water out there..... and back with out a sniff. WTF..... Lets do something different we pulled in the spread and set out the HIGH Speed rigs.... pulled three baits for around another hour with one bite and lots and lots of scattered GRASS....wanted to drop to the bottome out in the deep but 2knts of tide made that VERY tough.....By this time my buddy has put 3 hoos in the boat not very far away from us so we put the spread back out and worked that area no love....
By 130 i am ready to Jump overboard and give up....we went back inshore to try and get some Pullage for my about to DEPLOY neighbor... but we couldn't even find the jacks or much less get them to bite.....We tried and tried nothing....
finally put the spread back out and around 200 we get a nice bite on the planer pole and the 80wide growles nicely get the angler on the rod and a couple cranks and he's GONE!!!! MOTHERLESS SONOFA!!!! Re set the planer make a couple more laps in that area but by now the water temps are nearing 90degrees....wow. we had 81-82 in the am and by the afternoon we had 86-87 very hot water.... WE did catch one fish while clearing the lines to move inshore we always leave out the WWB out until last and its gets nailed pretty good..fight the fish to the boat and realize its a damn STINKY
finally moved inshore to some other numbers to be greeted with more TIDE 2 knts or more in places marked lots of fish on this new ground but no love.
IT WAS NOT OUR DAY!!!
All in all it was STILL A great Day on the water with good friends. And as pretty a day as I have seen all year....

Hey at least you got out there. Nice gesture to your neighbor as well. He will have some good memories of a beautiful day to keep him connected to home.
Zack you can never know till you're out there.... at least you had a heck of a ride! Next time will be the good one. I'm stuck at work again this weekend and would rather have a no fish day!!!

Sorry to hear that you guys didn't kill them. I t was very nice of you to take your neighbour out.
We had pretty much the same luck yesterday, only we didn't have to fight the current. We taked to a couple of boats out there and it didn't sound like anyone was doing much.
