It does take cajones... when I started on my own with the detail business it was scary. But, with the help of some really great people here on SFC I got started. (and I was down to only $20 in my pocket)
I have never been happier in my life.
I decided from the very first day that I would give 110% on every thing I did.
The best advice I received was from a friend, she told me "well hell, if your going to do, do it. And give your costumers the very best of what you got."
You can do this Capt. D... Hell, if I can do it anyone can.
Congrats on the good news -D-
I'm sure you will look back one day and say this layoff is the best thing that every happened to your career.
Youv'e got the skills, talent, and drive, so now just develop the contacts and execute.
When selling a job or submitting a proposal, remember a saying that I live by in my small business:--- "Don't confuse getting the project with doing the project".
I'll all work out--- Best of luck to you.
Dennis,
I wish you all the best. I too have been laid off. I am close but not close enough to retirement. I am at the unemployabe stage of life. To much experience. Command to much $. And to old (although I can run rings around guys half my age in this business) Just stay positive things will work out.
I wish you the best in all your future endeavors.
Barry

It has been a busy two days. Ive got meetings set up with the lawyer, accountant and the insurance guy. money has started its roll over and I have already have spoken to quite a few contacts that wanna give me work now, but have agreed for everybody's best interest to hold off a week or two until the incorporation is done and the insurance is set up.
Ive got a couple other things going on that I wont talk about yet as I know that my former employer knows "where I play"
I have been contemplating this move for a while but was too "scared" to pull the trigger. I have a buddy that told me that once I start that I will be too busy to worry and he was right. I guess all I needed was a little push. So here goes!
