So. Jerz Shark Tournament (late) Report

Sorry for the late report guys I had a busy last few days.

    6/12 Fri.

Despite the nasty weather that was predicted for Friday it ended up being a very fishable day. We decided to fish around the 30line where we had clean blue water between 66-68 degrees.

We set up our slick and lines in the water, got rained on for about an hour then followed by the sun. We were first greeted by a nice size blue shark which was tagged and released with no problems.

Blue shark number 2 and 3 can shortly after all on tuna steaks.

the seas really laid down for us and it was a nice smooth ride in.

    6/13 Sat.

Saturday we decided to stay a little inshore of where we were Friday at the 750 sq. It was rainy, sloppy and FOGGY. We ended up with 1 blue shark around 11am.

After having a slow second drift we decided to fish the no. tip of the cigar. Loads of bait but slow, we did see some NICE BFT marks on the bottom. But most of our bait was between 5 to 40 feet down and THICK, our whole drift we had the same thick marks but we couldn't figure out what it was. I hope those tuna marks are promising signs for the upcoming season! we through a few jigs over but with our shark lines in the water it was difficult.

We ended up releasing 4 blue sharks between the two days, very unrewarding from the past few years where we made it to the scales everytime. We had fun thought it was good fishing with Jay Lutz (flew in from Colorado, which he does every year), Damion, John (Damion's dad), Kenny and Captain Jim Lutz.

We were a commity boat (which we do every year) and it was funny, lines and chum are allowed in the water AT/AFTER 9:30 and 9:35, 9:40, and just about every 5 mins. after we had boats calling in releases. Possible yes, but a few mins after lines in were getting calls. You would have to have fish swiming in the water next to the boat for that to happen. I remember we were getting our spread set when we had calls coming in!

Congrats to the crews that caught money fish and that there were no injuries or accidents that I know of.

Sharking is a lot of fun but BRING ON THE TUNA

    I'll have pics up soon
