So Cal Flattie Update
Howdy All,
I've been remiss contributing to this great forum and wanted to share some of our recent flattie success here off Southern California since my last post.
The water is still colder than most years and they aren't yet in full spring spawn mode, but the big gals have been chewing and we're dialed into an area that has produced several personal best fish (Herbert 37.4 lb, Chris 34.4 lb, Kim 34 lb) using our bounceball method to slow troll the bottom.
Every fish was taken on my friend Herbert's boat Tight Lines, except for April 11 when I fished a tournament out of Oceanside in my boat. We made the run 25 miles north to Dana Point. Herbert was also out with his daughter Kim visiting from Texas trying to get her first halibut.
We weren't having any joy but Kim and Herbert had a 34 and 26 lb flattie on their deck before noon. Late in the day we scratched up a 15lb fish with just enough time to run back for the weigh in. It was good enough for first place. It was a most excellent day.
Here's a few photos.
Enjoy,
Rick
