The planer bridle system uses the 3/8" stainless clips.

I think they would be to big for a trolling weight.

Here is what I would do if I was going to make a bridle for a trolling weight.
I think you would have to have a dedicated rod and reel for the trolling weight just like you do for the planer bridle system.

The Captain Harry weights like you use are the same ones I use. I would measure the cable that is molded into the weight from end to end.

I would then install a smaller clip like a double snap swivel on the leading end. You will have to take the measurment with the DSS installed. I think a 150lb test one would work fine. Its just holding the front of the weight. Your fighting the fish off the mainline, throught the bridle to your leader.

Then, crimp a Spro 150 lb wind on swivel to your main line coming off the reel

Then, get a piece of 130lb Diamond line or whatever mono you feel like using and attach it to the other end of the Spro swivel leaving 2 inches of tag and crimp it on there. This will be your bridle. Use another crimp and slide it up the 130 mono leader and using that 2 inches of tag make yourself a small loop and crimp it.
That loop is where your double snap swivel will clip into at the front of your trolling weight cable.

Now your going to need the measurment you took earlier from the front of the DSS to the back of the cable on the trolling weight.
From your loop you just crimped at the front of your bridle, measure and make and mark on that 130lb mono whatever your measurment was for your trolling weight. I use a black sharpie marker to make the mark.

Next, slide 2 crimps and a Spro 150 wind on swivel onto your 130lb bridle. Before your crimp the back end of the bridle....you might want to lay your trolling weight next to it to get a better measurment. Snap the DSS at the front of your trolling weight into the front of the bridle. Then lay the trolling weight aginst your bridle and make a mark where the snap swivel on the trolling weight needs to be on the bridle.

That mark is where you need to make your loop.

Once you have done that you just crimp your leader to the other end of the Spro wind on leader and your done. There is no tripping the weight.

This is basiclly the same as the planer bridle. The 1 main difference is that with the trolling weight, it will be fixed on both ends and it won't change. Snap it in the front, snap it in the back and your done.

When you get a fish, crank it up....when the weight reaches the rod tip.....just unsnap the DSS in the front, unsnap the back of the weight and crank the bridle and leader and lure right to the rod tip if you want.

I hope this makes sense. If you watch Marty's planer rod video first then doing this will make more sense.

This would allow you to use a longer leader and you would not have to worry about hand lining it all in and getting wrapped up if the fish runs again.

All this is just what I would do if I was going to use it this way. I have never seen it done yet.

I will make this rig up today when I get home and take some pictures and post them for everyone. Maybe it will make more sense when you see it rather then reading my jiberous.

If it works, we will be using it. Should be pretty simple though.
