9 1/2 month ban in the Gulf for the past 2 years; but we have been fighting the potential of increased restrictions for the last few months. Gulf fishermen were a pretty unified group early on till the Fed split us into commercial, for hire and rec, then we kind of all turned on each other.
Lord knows what we will be up against soon. Could be shut down all year.
A bit late for taking action in the S Atlantic - no resistance at all.
Still, sorry to see it happen to you guys.
Would love to have 6 mos of Snapper fishing.
Mandatory circle hooks and release tools for reef fish in S Atlantic soon I would think, but thats a good thing.

Its happening everywhere. This woman is shutting down every fishery she can get a hold of. I wouldnt have a problem with it IF they were using real, valid data, but even the govt admits their evidence for making closures is flawed. Dr. Lubchenco has an agenda to close our fisheries. It isnt just on the gulf coast, its on the american coasts. It isnt just recreational or commercial anglers. Its all anglers. We all need to do what we can to protect our livelihoods and our rights to fish.
Right now she is working on a ban that would make exporting bluefins illegal, essentially shutting down commercial bluefin tuna fishing in the united states. Don't think for a second that it can't happen.
