What is up with all this smoke comming out of NC? Man you guys are covering us up in it! It looks like the fog rollin in whenever the wind blows out of the south. Man I wish that fire would go out!
Gonna take quite a bit of rain (possibly in the form of a storm) to quench that fire. Actually isn't a fire as much as it is an underground smoldering mess.

NMFS HAS ISSUED A CEASE AND DESIST USE OF ALL LURES WHICH CREATE A SMOKE TRAIL UNTIL THIS IS RESOLVED
I live in the county where that fire started. It started on peat land which means the actual land will burn along with the trees and underbrush. Forestry service says the fire will not be put out until we have a major rain at the equivalent of a tropical storm.
Luckily the fire here hasn't claimed anyones house yet and they claim to have it contained. It did get a hunting shelter which housed some 4 wheelers and deer stands but all that stuff is replaceable.
The thing I can't believe is that this fire is hundreds of miles away from here. When you are running off shore you can see the smoke as far out as 30 fathoms! When the wind blows out of the south it gets pretty thick here. I can't imagine what it must be like in VA Beach or OI area.
The closer you get to it the more concentrated it is. Where I am it is only about 5 miles wide. It hasn't had time to spread out too much. But in that 5 miles you can only see about a 1/4 of a mile.

When the wind blows out of the south it gets pretty thick here. I can't imagine what it must be like in VA Beach or OI area.
