MountainM, that was off Cabo Blanco in Costa Rica a couple years ago. Saw a pack of six or seven wahoo swim by the panga while we were roosterfishing and so I took a swipe at 'em with the light rod. When I hooked her, I said, "This'll be fun for about 30 seconds," then I fought the fish for over 30 minutes, chasing her down with the boat kingfish style. I only had about a foot of 20-pound fluorocarbon leader. Then we found out we had a really short gaff on the boat, so the end game was the most stressful.

Like I said, the fish should have won.

One of the skippers I worked for used to fish wahoo with primarily Penn 9500SS loaded with 25 lb test. He also used 8500SS and I recall even a 7500SS on occasion although line capacity with the latter was a bit of a concern at times. Biggest fish I gaffed on his boat was 35 kgs - 77 lbs. He has had them to 90 lb on this type of outfit. It all depends on the circumstances you are getting them - see Wound Up James thread on live baiting wahoo. For that style of fishing the OP could certainly get them with his Avet LXs. Conventional trolling or high speed fishing yes you need to break out the heavier stuff but it is often possible to use tactics that suit lighter tackle and it is certainly a lot more fun to get them on the lighter stuff.
