Exclamation Small world Friday and a full on blitz today...

Friday Ashley, Austin, and Mark went tarpon fishing with me in San Jose lagoon. Ashley and Austin were both graduates of Texas Military Institute in San Antonio, Tx. Both myself as well as my sister Leslie attended TMI. Small world...The fish had been predictable and aggressive for the last few mornings. So freakin predictable they make you look like some kind of swami or something. I head into the lagoon at idle see afew fish rolling and feeding off to the left. They are oooing and ahhhing and I go right. Just wait I said...go 400 yards away to a 30 foot hole and shut off the motor. They are staring back at the otther fish as I cast baits to still, seemingly lifeless water. Five minutes goes by with nothing, then a anchovy jumps out of the water and gets crushed 5 feet away, then another, and another till there is a frenzy all around the boat Doubles, triples, fish all over. That last about 30 minutes and goes down. I rerig every thing and start straightening out twisted line toward margaritas about 1000yards away. Where you headed? Well Mark there is a frenzy going on over there on the other side of that point...How do you know? Trust me, it's there...It was there all right, a massive frenzy about 1 1/2 acre of mixed tarpon and snook Wild action for an hour, then just little blitzs all over till 9am, time to go home...

This morning was an instant replay...But a whole lot better...I went through 2 livewells of bait before 8am. Sick tarpon fishing

Heres some pics I'll get some video of the blitzs

The pics don't come close...

to doing it justice...I need someone with a video camera on while I am scrambling around the boat with ten things going at once. When my ratio is 5 for 15 on tarpon and 8 for 9 on snook friday and 5 for 20 something today and 10 for 12 on snook the last thing I want to be doing is videoing instead of having my head on a swivel...ya know? It's still fun everyday and thats what matters I guess...

nice action for sure! looks like you are on the "other side" of the bridge? wah, no more jet skis?

I'd really like to understand why in that lagoon, some days are easy pickens like you had and others, fish are rolling all over and won't bite even if you shove it down their throat! as you know there is nothing more frustrating that that!

what is the formula there for agressive fish, tide, temp, moon, bait, post spawn etc??

The first and third, because the second and the fourth is always there...

We hit the moon perfect and the tide ok(it was the weaker of the two today, tonight will be bonkers ). If you give me forewarning I can look into the crystal ball(aka tide tables and moon phases) and forecast a badass bite 99% of the time. This place is a tarpon fishing playground

Btw, the day after me and Carom fished they weighed a 874 at congrejos yacht club...We are after tunas one night this week on the chunk...They have NEVER tried it Couple of sword baits too, we will be the first to try that at night as well

Excellent report captain Mike. Fantastic fishing and very good pictures of a happy crew! Do y'all kill any snook for the table?

Was there a report posted of your offshore trip with Carom? Sounds like you two will be having some fun mixing it up in the big water.
