I know I can get into some of the big ones but are there any for just boats for maybe 28 and under? The big boats just have an advantage, size, spread-width and weather. It would be nice to have a tournament just for us small boat junkies.

I am not aware of any in the Cape May, NJ area. I have been runninig a 25' Shamrock and would love to find a small boat tournament. The other option is to have boundry limits where the bigger boat can still enter and the smaller boat has a fighting chance. I think this would be a great tournament to head to head with the canyon fleet inside 40 miles.
June 22, 23 and 24th are the dates for this years OC marlin Club Small Boat Tournament. It is both an inshore/offshore tournament. Great tournament with good food, nice prizes and a great time at the Marlin Club after the days fishing.

Out of Wrightsville Beach NC we have a couple of King mackerel tournaments that are small boat only tournaments. We also have the Capt eddy Hanaman Sailfish Tournament that is set up for small boats by having nearshore limits but no size on the boats. The small boats are doing very well in that tournament.
There are two bluefish tournements out of AC. I believe you can fish out of other inlets though. There is the GABT Greater atlantic Bluefish tournement, and the LIBT Ladies Invitational Blufish tournement (Lady anglers only). Both tounements are good fun and not very expensive to enter. Both are in June.
I think Hatteras has a Red neck tournament that is for smaller boats. I don't know the dates but a buddy of mine is a mate down there on the Citation and he told me about it.
We hold the "Far Out Shoot Out" out of Ocean Isle Beach every spring. It is geared toward smaller boats and has provided a way for many to venture on out there while in the company of several others. Here's the info from our site.
Far Out Shoot Out- Tuna, Dolphin & Wahoo Rodeo
May 11-19, 2007 - Ocean Isle Fishing Center
2007- NEW FORMAT- fish 2 out of 8 possible days. Capt. Meeting- Friday, May 11th at 7pm Fishing Days- Saturday, May 12th thru Saturday, May 19th- pick 2 out of the 8 possible days. You must declare by 5am the morning before you fish in order for the day to count for the tournament- Call Capt. Brant at (910) 575-3474 xt3 Saturday, May 19th-8pm- Awards ceremony The concept of this format is to offer more possible days to fish and thus increase the chances of being able to fish under good weather conditions. Also, with the earlier dates, there should be more Carolina Slams caught and better overall fishing.
**** Rule Clarification**** You can fish 2 days total, thus you may drop a previous day's biggest fish with your 2nd day's fish-- still only 1 fish per species, but the largest of each species you catch out of the 2 days. Also, a boat may participate under only one entry and a Captain may only be registered as a Captain once. However, any fisherman, whether Captain or crew may fish on more than one boat as many days of competition as he/she chooses.
*** Billfish Addition**** Billfish release points are being added back in. You will recieve 10 points for each Billfish released, no matter the species.
$270 entry fee (includes entry, 4 tournament T-Shirts, 4 meals)
Pays $$ 1st - 3rd overall (combination weight of heaviest Tuna, Dolphin and Wahoo)
$3500 1st place overall + bragging rights
Pays $500 1st heaviest Tuna
Pays $500 1st heaviest Wahoo
Pays $500 1st heaviest Dolphin
The Far Out Shoot out is geared toward the small Gulf Stream boater with average boat sizes typically between 25 - 32ft. The Far Out Shoot Out provides Gulf Stream fishermen the opportunity to work with other local Captains to improve techniques as well as add the comfort of having friends around while fishing offshore. The tournament is highlighted by the traditionally excellent Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, and Dolphin fishing.
ATTENTION NOVICE GULF STREAM FISHERMEN- This is an excellent chance to learn more about Gulf Stream fishing as you will have opportunity to mix and mingle with many of the area's top offshore fishermen. In addition, you'll have plenty of company for the long ride offshore to help insure your safety and give piece of mind.
