Small Boat Outrigger Setup
We will be rigging the outriggers on a new regulator this weekend. Whats your setup. How many clips are you running? Where do you run your teasers from?
-
do your self a favor the first time and run the riggers to the gunnels
get you some aftco roller release clips
we tried runnig our top mounted riggers with the rigging atached to the t top big mistake unless you are 7 ft 6 in tall
on a small boat I would not mess with teasers
pull some meat and make swim so they look like they are going to pass the boat
forget the bait springs and use monel rigging wire
-
I forgot we are running single release clips on a 25 ft contender but we will be changing to doubles in the near future

I think Admin is going to let me have this space
You could always run 2 clips spaced out 1 1/2' to 2' instead of a true double rigging. Gives you the option of a heavy OR-1 (original) release tunas, marlin lure fishing or bigger bait fishing with high drag set reels then below that a lighter tension black's clip for whitey and sails with lighter drag reels in clicker only freespool. This still allows for the simplicity of single rigging but the option to keep the rigger lines and maint very simple. You can run a long and a short from the same pulley by doing this for tuna fishing just crank up the tension screw on the blacks clips. It takes a bit of getting use to getting them set out, just remember and watch your spacing as you raise them, they will slide out but will have tendency to get closer to one another.
Now, I am going to go out on a limb with my opinion on this and say rig one side with a teaser. Maybe not both sides. Personally I like to run a teaser off a small boat. Half way up the rigger glass eye or stls ring back to the Ttop above the helm. Old 4/0 or 6/0 senator, long beach, jigmaster etc IE LOUD CLICKER!
If you have a cross bar support on the side of the t-top that is lower than the main frame hoop on the top, I would anchor the pulley, jelly glass rope, bungy here still within arms reach especially in a rough rolling sea so you can keep your footing while looking up. If you anchor them on them on top of the gunnels in a mad bite you will be going in and out of the rigger lines with the rod if you need to move up or down the gunnel while on a fish. If you get more than one on you will not have alot of room to spread out. I like to spread out on boat especially a CC and take advantage of the open unhindered space up front.
If you get a fish that starts to dump line you, you are not going to be able to keep proper tension on him and keep the rod tip up while going in and out of the rigger lines while making your way to the front or the side of the boat while angling to him or chasing him down to recover line.
I don't have riggers on my CC but I have fished all kinds of smaller boats in my life with riggers and have seen all different types of setups. I have thought long and hard on this one and keep coming back to this type of rigging on any CC under 30' long and more importantly a beam that is narrower the 9'6"

Banned Camp - I am on PROBATION!!
Like everyone is saying is all good!! try it out trial and error..
like one said oyu HAVE to go to the gunnels!! no choice!! do it with a release clip so you can move it with your running and it is out of the way.
What i also like to do is double rig it. have two lines and i like ot have my short rigger with a 2-3 ft tag line which the clip is attached to and allows it to run farther away from the rigger..
if i can draw a pic or get a pic i will attach it..
if you need any help call me 848-333-8949
