If you decide on a canon check out Ritz camera center. They had the best prices on the D80 anywhere I could find. If you can't find a ritz just take a ritz printed price to Circuit city and they will honor it plusless 10% more off. I just bought a d80 from CC for $849.00 with a bullshit lense but it works well for stuff around the house. Anyway - next week I saw the D80 for $749.00 at ritz. took the ad back to CC and credited me $80.00 to honor their best price deal.

Now I need to go lense shopping. JW and Dman, Tap the wives for some lense info. You know what I want to shoot.
    thanks

The new Canon 50D is the best for the money. Great low light/high iso performance. Couple it with an image stabilized zoom and you have a very versatile setup.

Ritz is where I got mine too.

They offer insurance as well. It's expensive but as long as you bring the camera back... they will fix it.

I asked what happens if it falls in the water???? COVERED!!!!!

I might have to attach a float to it so I can get the camera back when I drop it overboard.

I use a Nikon D 60 and have been happy. I don't know squat about photography and it makes me look like I do.

My wife is a semi-professional photographer and she swears by her Canon 20D. She has a bunch of lenses that cost twice as much as the camera but I know she is pleased with it and did a rediculous amount of research prior to the purchase.

I have the Canon Digital Rebel XSi that came with the 18-55mm Lens which isn't bad and @ 3 frames per second it def doesn't miss a fish out of water! I still haven't figured out everything on the camera but so far i love it. i was able to shoot a marlin out of water the weekend i purchase it, the stock lens wasn't very good for distance, but with the Image Stabilization and auto focus the pics came out really great! needless to say very shortly after i bought the canon 70m-300mm.
