Weather forecast was right, had to go, even if solo. I was looking to make some friends today. I offered a one way ride back to the hill in an air conditioned box. Had some takers. Made bait at 10 miles, a combination of tom tates and cigar minnows. Punched in the numbers, 28 miles to go. 17 miles from numbers come across a nice mark. Had one live sardine, dropped him down. Pulled out a 25 inch gag. Good start, still 17 miles to go. 13 miles from the numbers another scratch. Drop a boston down, decent red. O.k. 2 for two, but still have a ways to go. 10 miles from the spot, another scratch. Another boston goes down and another red. Batting 1000. This spot looked good enough to investigate a little further. Drifted several more times, ended up finishing out the limit there. Left at 11:30 and had a limit by 2:30. Well what now. Had two trolling rods with me. Put both of them out with dolphin weenies and whole squid. Had some flyers taking off aroung the boat. Trolled north with the sea at my stern. 10 minutes into trolling and the left rod goes and off and then silence. Drop back and he's back on. Slinger mahi. Sling him in the boat. Start trolling again and after 10 more minutes I notice the 2 lines are twisted to hell. Undo that mess and figure it's time to head to the hill. Great day today. Never made it to the original destination and never had to drop the anchor(nice on the back). No complaints. Life is good. Slip.
And just like that you limit out......again. Very nice work Nick! Did you mark those groupers while you were running out or did you slow down to investigate some of your usual haunts?
a little pinfish-like critter that the groupers like to eat....we catch them frequently on sabikis around the wrecks and bouys. they make a pretty decent live bait.
