What a difference a day makes weather wise. Yesterday, we had close to hurricane force winds and today we get a fair weather day to chase fishes. Headed out this afternoon with JMS in search of gags. He caught four shorts on one spot and that's about it for the gag report. It pretty much sucked. But, we did come across a couple of cobias hanging out on a buoy. We hooked up with both of them but only ended up landing the smaller one. I pulled the hook on the bigger of the two and JMS did a great job of landing his fish. We went back to the buoy after about an hour and found the cobia still hanging out there. We threw everything at him but the kitchen sink but he wouldn't eat. We even contemplated jumping on to the buoy and free gaffing him but it was a little too bumpy. Here is a shot of JMS with the one that didn't get away.
Enjoyed it today Matt. No complaints. Life is good. Slip.
Nice job on what appears to be a beautiful day on mother ocean.
Hopefully someone will have the story written by "Lost Sailor" a few years ago on another forum about free gaffing a cobia. I can remember soda coming out my nose from laughing at that story. I used to have it saved somewhere on the HD, but guess I cleaned it out.
Sorry about the groupers but you guys were lucky to be back on the water so quickly after Hanna...
Can picture pretty well the rush around the boat trying to find the right bait for those cobias that didn't want a snack!
Good job on making it happen...
MM
its all good.....we know where that rascal lives. he will get over that sore lip in time and his day will come when he gets to take a ride on a contender boat soon enough......
Fine catch fellas! Hopefully the cobia will hang around during their southern migration! BTW I think the WX man has blown the forecast this week! Imagine that!
