sorry, its a little late. havent had access to a computer this weekend and the trout are chewing....priorities, ya know?
we pulled away from the dock a little before noon on friday after barbecue sandwiches and fries. the conditions were greasy calm. we just knew the groupers would be chewing. the plan was to run south and look for groupers and hopefully snag some of the monster black seabass hanging around the area. our first couple of spots were gorgeous marks, lots of bait, but no wind and light current made anchoring prescisely very hard. after a couple of failed attempts, we finally got hung right and picked up some of those big bass, some on bait, some on jigs....but no groupers .
slip dropped down a live bait, stuck the rod in the holder, and proceeded to jig while the bait swam around on the bottom. i bet that prime live beeliner sat down there for 20 minutes before it taunted a gag enough to come out of his lair....and with the rod in the holder, you usually dont have a chance to get a gag off the bottom. but this fish was different....and with considerable force, slip was able to get him up and i slid the gaff in the lip of this slob in the low 20's.
the groupers continued to not cooperate. we were fishing some of the usual numbers where the red grouper fishing can be downright carnage....and i dont think a red grouper came over the gunnels all day. biscuit fooled another smaller gag with his brand new saltiga reel and we filled the box with more jumbo bass and pinkies....a slow day with the groupers, but dont worry.....they will get what is coming to them, you just wait .
the final bag.....with a guest apearance by Geoff's favorite goofy yellow dog, LICKWACHAGOT!
thanks to slip for another beautiful day on the water aboard the slip slidin.
Thanks for the great report and pics JMS. We struggled a little with the groupers but not a bad catch. Had a great time on the water with you and Biscoto. Look forward to gettin after em again soon. We have a little makin up to do with them critters. Thank You.
