Slip Slidin fishing report, June 18, '09

Buying a new boat is an adventure. More so when the boat has to live up to great expectations and walk on the footsteps of a previous loved one. That certainly has been the case with each of the many SeaBiscuits in my life and I knew just what my brother Slip was getting into when he contracted a severe case of the boat bug this past spring.

A great little boat, the new Slip Slidin has been coming along nicely in the past few weeks since Nick took delivery. Seems like fine tuning begins the moment you take possession, in an effort to properly "fit" the boat to the new owner.

Being the type who never washes his truck, the only "details" I really care about in a boat are :

    1. Is she capable of taking us there and back safely and....

    2. Can She catch?

Yesterday was a bit on the rough side. 4-5 every 8 seconds, but the wind laying throughout the day. When Slip called mid morning itching to go I was a bit skeptical. Rain showers were rolling through and may be the sea needed one more night to settle from the big east winds of the week. Being that the best conditions to work out a boat are real ocean conditions however, the date was made. Off we went looking bait by noon. By 2:30 PM we were 30 miles off and had 3 pinkies on ice

A little gaffer ate the light line right about then so, I though, things were looking up, when the captain started messing with his gps. When he was done the machine said 14 miles to go and so I prudently ate some advil and settled for the ride. It was 4 foot by now, some a little more, some less. the 23T did a great job heading directly into it at 25 knots or so.

Whatever possessed the captain to want to go to "that" place was, as usual, a blessing. We "started" fishing around 4 and were done before 7. 3 stops, some good fish, some humble pie by deep water monsters and, of course, "eclectic" music mix.

"Burn rubber" by the Gap band was playing when this 21 lb scamp met his maker

It took Lenny Kravitz to coax big sister at 25 lbs to come play a little later:

Momma came looking too, but the tunes were not to her liking and she just obliterated both Slip and I on consecutive beeliner drops.

7 Scamps, 3 chunky reds and one ceviche sized mahi were the afternoon's tally

The new Slip Slidin catches as good as any of her predecessors. She also did 37 knots on a true 3 foot sea on the way home! I think she is a keeper.

Thanks for taking me fishing brother Nick!

Nice grouper. I have a feeling that 23 T is gonna waste a lotta fish.

Nice to read about those two Nicks playing on the new Slip Slidin.... Amazing pair of SCAMPS !!!! Not everyday someone will come across some that size and put them on ice!
Glad that the boat is ready to Rock n Roll... Let me know when she makes it to Harkers Island I'd like to see her in whole since you don't want to show us a picture of the babe...
