The Slayer Talks Skirts
Yokwe, Aloha, Sup Brothers
The Slayer's in da house!
Shrink da girls an get over here. Ya got time fer dem latter.
One or two O ya wanted ta know about da Slayer.
Da Slayer fishes HARD & FAST
Da Slayer pulls lures that out catch everybody. I don't make um. I buy um and I ain't cheap. I got um all. And maybe a few you never heard of.
Bait, me, Da Slayer, only if it's on a briddle.
Wacha think about these skirts? I'll give ya a clue. Each ones got enough problems I wouldn't run it and I ain't talking color,,,, leave dat alone for now.
Post away! Tear dem beauties apart. Don't be shy!
I'll be waitin!
IMO the top 2 could stand a bit of a hair cut and a definate thinning on the sides. The bottom one has the ugliest head I've ever seen. No skirt in the world will dress that mug up ( pretty hair color though). I though you said speed?
Good looking rigs.I like the top one with the wings. It kind of looks like a old sea tal head.I've got a box of them unrigged without skirts.Over heer on the east coast we pull alot of meat. But I've been known to pull some plastic.(just dont tell Marti)

love those Black Bart Skirts
Ok so it's hard to tell without being able to pick them up. Here's what I found with these three.
Top This is a pretty good head with a pretty good skirt but the hook up ratio was not as high as other similar lures. When I removed the stiff wings, the hookup ratio improved. I'm not sure why, maybe they were too stiff and interfered with the lure moving through the mouth, or too long for the hook placement
Middle: When I snipped the inner skirt I didn't snip enough. That created the bulbus look, too much flair. The skirt should hang straight down without bulges, hourglass look, rings where it's tied, etc
Bottom: This head is not the best looking, I agree there. But I got it working good with a set of Black Bart Skirts. The head is chock full of lead with a deep scoop face, it took a set of long soft skirts to give it the ballance it needed to run good. I caught a couple marlin on it and instantly fell in love with the shape. Then I "discovered" Super Pro Jet and switched to what I consider the next leap in evalution for that shape. The super pro jets even look pretty.
I started this thread hoping to invite a few people to discuss the fine art of trolling deep sea fishing lures.
In the attached picture you will see an example of a perfectly skirted lure. BBLs has come up with a system of lureheads with ample, perfectly cut tail stock and a hook lock system and custom sized skirts. Notice the skirt has a smooth transition from the head, no bumps, ridges, bulges.
Good lure analysis slayer. I fish on the east coast usa- new jersey- We use a lot of green lures for tuna- weighted green machines etc. We also use Zucker feathers in various colors. They seem to do well on tuna and mahi. We also run ballyuhoo mostly behind a lure like a sea witch or iland lure. I am gonna start using more bally. Marty has been posting a lot about naturals and I'm picking up a lot of good info.
I thinkl you said you were in the Marshall Islands. Some day I'm gonna have to try it there. I fished out of Kona once. It is just a long way from here.
My wife is in Hawaii today and I'm getting ready to leave for the Bahama on overunder charters today
