COAST GUARD RESCUES THREE PEOPLE FROM SINKING BOAT IN BEUFORT INLETPORTSMOUTH, Va. - Coast Guard Station Ft. Macon, N.C., personnel rescued three people today from a sinking boat in Beufort Inlet. The Coast Guard was notified at 8:50 a.m., from a boat owner claiming her vessel was taking on water. A 47-foot motor lifeboat from Station Fort Macon was in the area conducting a routine law enforcement boarding, and quickly responded to the call arriving on-scene at approximately 9:01 a.m.
When the crew arrived, the vessel was partially submerged with three people were in the water. All three were rescued and taken to shore aboard the Coast Guard rescue boat. No medical injuries were sustained.
A local tow company will tow the vessel to shore, removing any possible hazard to navigation.
The Coast Guard reminds boaters that accidents can occur at any time while underway, and having proper safety equipment such as lifejackets, marine band radios, and EPIRB devices greatly enhance the chances for survival in the event of an unforseen accident.
