HAIR LURES

How to rejuvenate hair lures

Treat the hair as if it were your own...Once your trip is done, let the lure sit in a solution of fabric softner and/or hair conditioner w/ fresh water for 1/2 hr. or so....rinse with fresh water...comb out and hang dry...Hair lure should be like new.

Spray the teak down before you bring a fish over the side ... especially if you keep the teak natural

Don't skimp out on your tackle.
Use a light spray or mist while washing your reels.
Sharpen your hooks.
Check your drag often.
Use panty hose to check for cracks in guides.
Check and oil your roller guides.

HAVE FUN!

store hair lures upside down so the hair maintains its flair when in use...use hair detangler to keep lures like new

wipe down rods and guides each trip and give them a coat of wax each season to keep them looking new...

instead of keeping kosher salt in the box that ends up soft and wet, store kosher salt in a large plastic caintainer that powdered coffee creamer comes in, it keeps the salt dry and makes it easier to salt the baits...

save the corks from wine bottles, they make good floats for spreader bar squids....

don't leave fish to find fish...

use double ringed snap swivels (buy good ones - with ball bearings)...see BOX's snap swivel demon video...

always check line/leaders for knicks and retie after landing a fish...

stamp the numbers into lead weights, that way they are always visible...

don't be afraid to ask questions...if you don't know how to do something, admit it, set your ego aside and learn how to do it...

Best Catch: my wife, how cliche'
Occupation: does it matter?
And for those that charter boats....

Always heed the warnings of the crew. DO NOT insist on going if they say stay at the dock. They have a clue as to what snotty can be.

Always wear good waterproof sunscreen. Keep it in the fridge or in a cooler on ice--feels great in the summer when you reapply it halfway through the day.

Use a dehooker when you're sabiki-ing live bait. It's a lot safer plus your baits will look better and live a lot longer if you don't touch 'em until you put them on the hook.

Keep your crimping tool inside an old oven mitt with lots of WD-40 or CRC sprayed in there. Now it won't rust and also won't bang around inside the tackle drawer.

store your 8" bastard file in the tube a Hawiian Eye comes in...

your file will last longer and there'll be less rust on your boat...

If The Beast says its "sporty", he is not complementing your athletic skills and insinuating you should grab that case of beer and come on.
