No special brine needed. For kingfish, i prefer a frozen hoo over fresh for the simple fact that the kings teeth go right thru the softer hoo and I get a better hook-up! |

Drop a "Glow Stick" in your livewell while livebaiting at night... makes catching those little dudes a LOT easier.
The Foam "Coozie" cups make a great line spool holder. When Speck fishing w/lead heads, take the needle nose pliers and open the gap on the hook just a bit... you'll get a better hook-up ratio. Keep a bucket of fresh water close when lure fishing. When you change lures, toss'em in the bucket. It'll result in a LOT less rust on your rigs. One of those "Clip On" lights on the bill of your cap is ESSENTIAL for night fishing. |

Even if all the weather gurus are predicting a tropical storm that will not become a hurricane for days yet,
haul your boat. |

Never ever scream or berate your mate in front of a charter. If you have to brine baits use Kosher salt instead of bait brine it won't stink up your box as bad. Pay attention to your terminal tackle, it is the one thing you have control over in fishing, you can't catch the fish of a lifetime if your leader breaks or a crimp fails.

haulin' rods
Roof top ski carriers by Yakima or Thule are perfect for carrying rods, especially for surf fishing. No worry of trees or power lines, lockable...just use a reel bag. Then you can use the vertical racks on the beach. Never had a problem with bugs, but I fish mostly fall and spring when they aren't prevalent.

When crimping...
take a lighter and melt the end of the mono or fluoro and mash it flat, then let cool and snug it up to the crimp. It will never slide through and I watched a fella catch a 150 yellowfin without even crimping the sleeve

If you are a jig fisherman, be sure to either take the jig off of the split ring or wrap the jig to the blank with a #64 rubber band- if you don't the jig can hit the blank and weaken it as you're running. Next thing you know you'll be using a really short jigging rod.
