In a locked case in the trunk of your car.
Fedex or UPS but it depends on who you are shipping to and why. If you have sold them to someone else you run into issues. If thats the case you ship them FFL to FFL (dealer to dealer usually a 10 to 25 dollar fee at each end plus shipping costs). I have been told by a friend with the ATF if its yours and your shipping it to a gunsmith or to a lodge for yourself just use fedex or ups. Im not sure on the laws if your gifting them to someone, but I can find out. Robja PM me on the details and Ill have him get the run down on any Fed or state laws for those two.
nautiduck is correct on the laws...if shipping to yourself or a gunsmith then your OK...and a gunsmith can ship it direct back to you...if your selling them then FFL to FFL is the only way to go...UPS will insure them and you get a tracking number for like $35...that was how much it cost me last time to ship thru my FFL...each one will vary though and you need to see if the FFL is responsible for damage if THEY pack it...if you pack it and it gets damaged you may have to deal with it...
I have shipped back to T/C and to outfitters where I was going to hunt here in the states and to Canada, through the plain old post office, you have to take the barrel(s) off and (or) remove the bolt, in other words disassemble the weapon so it can't fire, then on the container that you use to ship it, you have to post on the outside the words Gun Parts, insure and ship, saves alot of money and hassle.
Thanks for the info. One of my staff peoples husband is in the military and he is having some of his guns shipped from his parents house in Texas to NC. This is the first year in a while that he has not been deployed so he is wanting to do some deer hunting this fall.
Fedex or UPS will be find direct since he already owns them.
