Shimano Triton TT50, worth the price?

I found one for $175.00 in good condition. Is this reel worth buying I'm fishing for the man in the blue suit and occasional mahi, wahoo, and yft. Is it even a good reel. I never hear people talk about the triton its always TLD.

Dude never heard it called a TT50, but if that's a TLD50 that's a great reel. We've had one for years and have never had a problem with it.

I believe the Trition was the first proto type which turned into the TLD.

I have a Triton 50 wide. (don't know the model #'s as I'm at work)

It is a single speed and it holds a bunch of line.

The only real diffrence that I have noticed between the two is that to go past strike there is a thinggy on the drag lever itself that you have to pull out and not a button on the reel body like the TLD's. Never had a problem.

And of course it is a single speed

Sounds like a great price. I would jump on it.

I think they changed the name to TLD around 10 years ago.

If you have any more questions try sending Fred Archer a PM.

He developed the damn things and I'm sure he know everything about them.

    Good luck

The TLD series is the new generation of Triton's as they stand for Triton Lever Drag. I believe DeepC has a set or two of them and loves them. As it is an older plastic real I would pay attention to the effect that the time spent in the sun and make sure it has not become brittle. I wouldn't use it with a harness, I don't even know if it has luggs for it.

They do have lugs and the lugs are metal.

I have used this reel with a stand up harness many times and have never had a problem.

As listed above you should be careful that the reel has not been left in the sun as it could get brittle, but that should be quite easy to see, even in a picture, as there will be oxidation on the body of the reel.

The Triton Trolling was the reel Shimano built to
compete with the Internationals, it is the father of
the Tiagra's. The only issue is most people wanted
    gold reels not black

They are very good reels the 30's 50's 50w's and 80,s can
be found on ebay for about $150-200 on a regular basis.

The only issue is parts are getting harder to find, however the
parts kits show up on ebay from time to time.

I had 8 30's and 8 50's and a few 80's over the years and never really had any issues with them.

I won the auction for $154.51. This is my first lever drag and the pics look nice...no oxidation on it. Thanks for the responses.

    Congrats.

Well there it is. Your first step.

You will be a junkie in no time.

I think the reel co's should give everyone the first one for free. Just like drug dealers LOL

Can you post a picture? I want to see if it's the same one that I have.
