shimano 30 lrs, braid backing
Hello,I'm a newbie here on SFC but I have been lurking in the shadows, stealing great onfo from this great site. Thanks again for all the info.
But now my Question: Last year at the point we were on a big fish, probably big eye by the fight and the time of year, but lost it after recovering 3/4 of the line any losing a hours worth of time. We were using 30 lbs. andys then. That still makes mre cringe. We removed all of the line from the 2 30's and are looking to reline them, before the trip to the point we should be leaving for after the cannon runner seminor in annapolis this weekend.
I would like to line them with a braid backing and a mono top shot. But I am confused on what size and how much of each? We always use full mono and am looking to beef this rod up to match the 50's and 80's in ability to land a big fish if it hits the smallest rod like it always does....
Thanks again and any body going to be fishing the OL area monday/tuesday?

Sit down Shut up And fish
i would go with 130 pound jerry brown and either 80 or 100 pound top shots top shots are only 100 yards and are cheap so you can replace them threw out the season basil tackle is the man to see about jerry brown bhptackle.com

The reason everyone is going with the Jerry Brown 130 hollow is because it is half the price or less than the 80lb. Due to the weaving process in the smaller diameter 80 being much more complicated. If you go with solid core spectra, you can get away with 60-100lb depending on preference. You can then choose your connection from there, do a search on mono braid connections as there are also a few schools of thought.

Anthony's Ark is a blowboater
On the 30WLRS, try 500 yards of 130lb spectra and 50-100 yards of 80lb mono. See you at the seminar...
