I have been catch and release shark fishing this summer and I am considering keeping a Blacktip for the grill. I need advice on the best method of dispatching a shark before boating.
I usually fish solo.
Thanks
For blacktips, just gaff it and bring in the boat. If you don't have much room for the shark to freak out in(and they will freak out), try raking the sharks gills with a knife or another gaff before getting him onboard. I'm not a huge shark fishermean like some of the members on here from up north, but I've never seen a reason to use a gun or powerhead for any fish. And I've caught some huge sharks over the years. I also did a lot of fishing alone. It wasn't a smart idea as I look back on it.
Life gives me a new perspective and outlook daily.

I've caught alot of BIG makos in the gulf...
but I dont care if it is 125lbs, I'm puting a load of 000 buckshot(I use 3") between his eyes. It simply puts them to sleepI have seen some very near misses before we all started useing shotguns. Don't shoot them with a pistol, it just pisses them off most times. The buckshot is the ticket. Make sure you got a gaff poised to strike the millisecond after you pull the trigger in cas you cut the wire.
