I have a commercial license and am going down to MHC to fish for Bluefin. Do I have to be on my OWN that is registered commercially to sell them? Or can I be in any boat? Thank you all. I appreciate the help.

FIRST I WANT TO WELCOME YOU TO SFC AND W2MW...
NEXT....THIS TOPIC HAS BEEN ASKED SO MANY TIMES IN YEARS PAST AND HAS ALWAYS RESULTED IN SOME CRAP
IF YOU ARE GOING TO COMMERCIAL FISH IN NORTH CAROLINA THEN ONE SHOULD LEARN THE RULES AND REGS.
AND ...IF YOU HAVE TO ASK ...AND I AM CORRECT IN SAYING THIS...THEN PROBABLY YOU ARE NOT A COMMERCIAL FISHERMAN....NOW DON'T TAKE OFFENSE HERE PALEEESE.....

YOU NEED A NC ENDORSEMENT TO SELL....& CHARTERBOAT HI-MIG PERMIT OR GENERAL CATEGORY HI-MIG PERMIT THAT GOES WITH SAID BOAT...
WHOMEVER NAME IS ON THE ENDORSEMENT TO SELL MUST BE ON THE BOAT.....BUT THIS PERMIT CAN BE "ASSIGNED"
IN YOUR CASE....I THINK YOU NNEED TO BE SURE THE BOAT YOU WISH TO FISH AND IT'S SAFETY GEAR IS UP TO PAR
A NC BOAT MUST BE SET UP AND PERMITTED AS A "COMMERCIAL" BOAT WITH PROPER PERMITS AND DISPLAY NUMBERS ETC ETC BLAH BLAH BLAH AND SO ON
THE BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE THIS IS: IT'S ABOUT ONE SCREWED UP PROCESS
Box, I am am not a 'true' commercial fishermen you are correct. Part time about 6 months a year however mostly in Virginia. I know the rules in Virginia like the back of my hand. NC has some strange rules, so I was just wanting get some info people with experience as there is a grey area in the NC marine fisheries rule book. I have a boat that is commercially registered in NC and VA a 40 footer. However, it is high and dry getting new shafts put in. My cousin has a 29 Donzi it is ready to fish fully with safety that is not a problem. I basically just needed to know if there is anyway to fish out of his boat without it being commercially registered in my name.
The permit is issued to the vessel.
Moose, I believe the permit he is asking about is his NC Standard Commercial Fishing License, which goes with the person, not the boat. If you hold, or are assigned a SCFL, then you can sell fish caught on any boat you're on, providing that boat has all the required saftey gear and federal permits, as well as the NC Commercial Vessel Registration.
Thanks guys, I am going to get on the phone first thing in the morning with them and see exactly what they have to say about it. I appreciate the help.
Tight lines to all!
