SeaBiscuit "Yankee" fishing report, May 27

Visiting family in Long Island this weekend. NY Greeks are crazy about scup (porgies) but the season is closed for a few more days. Oh Gosh! I guess we'll have to go fluke fishing instead!
Fished the Shelter Island Green Lawns area. Fog was thick in the morning. Fish bit well on the moving tide, especially the beginning of the falling. 30 - 50 feet of water, live mud minnows for bait and plain 3 way rigs. We managed a 3 man limit (12 fish) of cold water flukes between 18 & 25 ". Same number of throwbacks. Some stud sea robins, a few feisty bluefish and the odd skate made it for a fun & busy few hours on the boat.
This Yankee fluke fishery is something else. There must have been several hundred boats in the bay, all within a radius of a couple of miles from us. Everyone seemed to be catching some fish. The bottom must have been covered with 'em!

Pictured is my cousin (captain Johnee G) and yours truly with a couple of our fish

Panko fried flounder, fresh long island spinach and cold beer put the exclamation mark on a wonderful NY day.

Good job biscoto! They can run but they can't hide. Sooner or later the biscuit is gonna get paid, no matter where he is. The southern's (flounder)cousins had to pay for a slow flounder season last year. Off to a decent start this year. Hope we can continue it down here. Safe bet to put your money on the Biscuit.
