SeaBiscuit report, Oct 13, 2007
Today was Lil' Biscuit's day. He has not been able to go since he broke his arm at summer camp and was definitely ready. He captained the boat most of the day and practiced rules of the road and basic seamanship and navigation. He must have done a good job, because he took me to the bait nice and easy. One cast filled the live well full.
I checked the offshore buoys early this am, so I was not surprised when I sneaked my nose out of the inlet and felt the stiff NE breeze and the steep tight chop. There were plenty of other folks surprised, however. The weatherman had told them it was light and variable after all! The inlet was crazy! Tournament boats running & gunning, birds everywhere, spanish jumping, a big shrimp boat towing the inlet mouth and a bunch of undecided weekend boats caught in the middle. I took the helm for a bit.
We put the baits out as soon as we cleared the cans. First bait out (long naked) got ambused within seconds. The king missed but came back with a vengeance. Solid hook up and the Lil' Biscuit made short work of the high teenager, while I tried to negotiate the slop.
Fished a little longer after boxing the fish, but the conditions did not seem to improve and we did not feel like getting beat up any longer. So off we went down the Cape Fear river on a 20 mile trek to the little sea village of Southport. South facing beaches and calm green water made for a pretty scene, but the several hundred boats of all shapes and sizes crowded the place. Everyone heard about that good forecast, I guess.
We opted for an early lunch (crabcakes and cheesburgers) at the waterfront and made our way home again, with plenty of sun, fresh air and precious father-son time under our belt. My little mate is coming along just fine. Arm is healed just in time for fall fishing!

Life is good indeed.

It is always great seeing the next generation learning the right way!!!

Glad Lil'Biscuit is back on the water. I am sure you are too. I may need a few pointers from him on Navigating and Seamanship. I guess a trip to Wilmington is in order soon. Nothing like father and son fishing together. Thanks for sharing the report Big' Biscuit.

To bad about the "oops" with the "light and slight"
weather .... But from the looks of things it certainly did not ruin your day. Reading posts like this has me counting the days till the day when lil'finesse is ready to wet a line with Dad
Good stuff as always SeaBiscuit and Lil'Biscuit!
