SeaBiscuit fishin report Nov 1, 2008
Couldn't sleep at all last night! Weather man has me all excited. Been blowin' for a while now and today was to go light and slight. I had not visited my local pet fish in weeks and have been missing them!
The morning was cold and dark. Rounding the south end of Wrightsville the strangest sight begun to form in the twilight. What looked like dozens of penguins were at the waters edge on the southern most piece of beach. North Carolina penguins! I slowed down to take in the spectacle and all of a sudden all the penguins hit the water in unison as if Antarctica was calling!
Water temp 59 degrees, air temp 34 degrees. I pulled my ear muffs down and said a little prayer for the crazy triathletes that were headed for the yellow turn buoy.
I run away from that mess as fast as I could and did not slow down until the sun winked at me

Lil'Biscuit was suffering from candy overload this morning, so he decided to skip the trip. It was just me and captain Glen the "Yamaha whisperer" of adventures past. 2 feet every 2 seconds is not my idea of fun, so deciding that both Glen and I are too old for a beating, I pointed her south, scrapping the "way offshore" plans. We decided we'd be plenty happy to just catch some dinner & go home.
20 miles out, boats whose captains had their plans changed too, were everywhere! I generally don't like fishing close to others, but today I had no choice. No matter where I went, no sooner had my boat settled on anchor, someone was moving in on me. King mackerel boats trying to snag my anchor line with their deep baits and bottom fishermen "just wanting to say hi"
We found gags everywhere we looked and 3 decent fish went on ice very quickly. Dinner chillin' I pointed her back to the north and away from the fleet. Where our fourth and final fish was, the ledge was alive. Safely out of range from all the boats, we decide to fish the place for a bit. Jacks (crevalle on top and amber on bottom) were circling the boat while king mackerels were waiting on the periphery for light lined cigar minnows:

Glen caught all he wanted. We iced a few, let some go and by lunch time (yesterday's fried speckled trout, cold with fresh lemon juice!) the box was respectable and we were happy. Decided to take it easy on the way back and look for seabass. Seabass usually push through our inshore bottoms in late November and December, but it did cool off awful fast this year, so it was worth checking out. Everywhere we looked we caught more gags but no bass. We finally located a knob of fish within sight of land and topped off the box.

By now the light of slight predicted for earlier in the day had finally materialized. We run the last few miles to the inlet at 30 knots and got home with plenty of daylight left to clean up.

A good day on the water with a good friend.
Cheers,
SeaBiscuit

Pretty mess of fish, guys! From the tower reports, it sounded a little bumpy this morning but nothing too bad for the little boat. Glad to see you got revenge on the gags. Next weekend they have a little payback from me coming their way.
