SeaBiscuit fishin' report June 11, 2010

We recently had some work done on our house and the builder we used, Dennis, has become a friend and occasional fishing partner. When he stopped by yesterday to talk with my wife about yet another creative way to spend our money, he hit me with the one, two combo. Hadn't been able to go in forever and it sure looked like it was gonna be pretty tomorrow. Oh by the way, I got these two "kids" that would love to go!

After tying rigs well into the night yesterday, I woke up extra early this morning to get my work affairs in order and the boat ready. A couple of prior commitments kept me at the desk until 10 AM, but by 11 the boat was in the water and headed towards the inlet.

The "kids" turned out to be brothers Joe and Brennan. Super nice guys. Brennan "had been fishing a couple of times" while Joe may have caught a brim once before. As I started heading offshore, I kept telling myself: "self, you can do this!". I must admit I did not sound very convincing. Looking to tie on a sabiki or two to catch bait, I noticed that for the second time ever in my life, I left without my tackle bag. Understandably rattled, I thought I heard my father lecturing: "only an idiot would head to battle without his ammo". The four bottom rods we were gonna fish were rigged up the evening before, so like four "one bullet Barney Faifes" offshore we went.

It's better to be lucky than good. Frozen bait and 4 hooks only somehow got the job done.

Dennis caught a few nice keepers

Brennan got a hold of a piglet

Even "crappy" Joe got in on the action

The ocean was beautiful, the day hot and calm and the bite OK. Large sea bass and pinkies kept everybody busy. I must have been holding my mouth right when in one of my few drops I caught my first ever warsaw grouper

Eat your heart out dad! All four of our hooks made it back tonight, bringing with them a box full of fish!

    Life is good!

Thats what I call goingwithwhatchagot, I'd be willing to bet that tackle bag won't be left behind ever again. Most times things have a way of working out for the good and everyone caught big tasty fish. Every fishermans dream, slick, dead calm water and meat in da box. Nice photos and report.

Looks nice out there. Some pretty gags and that warsaw is killer. I can't build a house, but I'll come mow your lawn or something if you take me fishing....I'll even bring some hooks and no sons.....

Sometimes it is better to be lucky rather than good...

But you seem to find fish often enough that I think a couple of safety pins would have worked as hooks.

    Nice groupa...

Sweet report, I think I would have had to turn around to get my tackle. That's a great 4 hook mess of groupers.
