We looked at the SST and hoped that we could find warm water north of the rock...
Put lines in about 6 miles north of the NE Corner - a little scattered weed, 70 degrees and a few little rips - We see a loner flying fish and then a wahoo hits and gets a complimentary ride home. We swing through the area for a while with no more action, so we pushed off to 150 Fathoms looking for signs of Global warming that never appeared...
As we came back into the area we started in, the weed was trying to form up so we worked it a bit - a few more flyers and the left flat goes off - nice mid-30s Hoo, then I saw a couple of huge splashes -Hmmm lets work that way - as we get there I see a Mola Mola - I'm thinking there is no way with those little fins that that thing cleared the water for that splash... but it lead us to a nice rip and we offered a 3rd hoo the free ride home...
By then the water temp has cooled slightly, weed has disappeared so we start looking for warmer water... We found a nice edge and all kinds of cool sea kittens - first an 8-10 ft hammerhead takes a swing through the baits, we came across another mola, and I would swear a manta ray...
but the capper was the basking shark... By then we were in 71 degree water and there were some flyers, and a weed edge forming, worked that for a while and were able to give a gaffer a ride home...
Not a bad first day and plenty of good eats...
