Frank--
He's not answering right now because he does not want to give away any of his secrets. He's been killing them lately--every Monday morning he's got new pics of billfish he's caught over the weekend. He is stricly a billfisherman---if he catches a dolphin he picks up and moves farther to the eastern.....horse ballyhoo are the smallest baits he pulls.....that boy quit school because of recess--he just don't play.
Id like to hear some details myself!! We have been sucking wind with the billfish this year!!![]()
trying to figure out how NOT to catch a billfish.....LOL.
Was the Drum Runner's first "real" trips offshore. (We took her out a couple weeks ago on a Sunday for a brief shakedown, just to put out the baits, see how all the equipment worked, how she handled the seas and what not..) boat handles great by the way, incredibly soft ride!
To break her in right, we headed out last Fri. on a 15-20 kt. southwester. Not the most pleasant ride out but the boat really held her own in those seas. I wasn't feeling stellar either, but by the time we started trolling and a few Budweisers I was good to goTrolled around in some pretty water for a pretty good while without a bite. There wasn't much happening on the radio either. Mid-morning a clip popped and the first fish brought over the transom was a pretty little Blackfin. All I could think was Sashimi for dinner! A little later, we picked up a nice Wahoo on the planer. By this time there was a lot of chatter on the radio of Sailfish bites a good ways to the North and in shallow. After hearing boats catching 3 and 4 we decided to ease on that way. Sure enough, it wasn't much longer before we had a little beaky critter batting the left Teaser (Squidnation Rasta Squids). I saw the fish first, popped the flat line out of the clip and waited for him to eat. Fed him plenty long, sat down in the chair as he took line but came unglued..another fish popped the shortrigger just about the time mine jumped off, that fish never came tight but finally one ate the shotgun and stuck! Sailfish release. It was exciting having multiple fish in the spread and I would have loved to caught multiples but it just didn't happen that way. We had a shot at one more fish that day but no dice...
Saturday was a bit more pleasant out there, had my brother and a friend on the boat. Had a good number of bites in the morning, just short strikes that wouldn't eat again on the dropback. Caught a Sail around 11 and a nice Wahoo after that.
My question would be, when are you planning on letting "Dad" crank one of those fish? So far, all I've seen is "I" was in the chair. Just sayin.Frank
Just left your Pop's house, sound's like he's gonna like the rig!!!!
Yea we started North last Saturday and heard about the Sail bite starting down about the 400line. We zigged when we should have zagged!!
So what exactly does drew do on that boat? no bridge.... no radio to call his very own... must be a strange experience for him.
