I got the same scam emailed to me several times on multiple boats. Just email them back and ask them to call you. I believe it is just someone trying to collect personal information. I never got a call or a return email.
Its a scam. They do it with cars, boats, furniture, etc.... I usually have them fedex the fake check to my office just so I know I at least got the $20 bucks out of them for the fedex .... gutless bastards.
I agree with everyone else... Just ignore it. Always always always... Look for grammar. You should be able to tell if the person is somewhat local. If the person can't meet you, don't do it. Still be careful if they can. Apparently, there's a problem now with fradulent cashier's checks... The buyer pays with the fake cashier's check, you deposit it no prob, then three weeks later the bank calls you and tells you it fradulent and you're liable for it. You're title-less stuff (like outboards) is/are long gone. Cash only, in a public place, with witnesses. - tell them you'll hold it until they get the cash from the bank.

man thats a scam for sure
anytime somebody wants to buy outright without seeing it, take notice. would you buy a boat without looking/test driving. I think its one of them scams where you they send you a rubber check/money order and by the time the bank notifies you of insufficient funds they are gone with your stuff. some dumbass from nigeria trying to sound like an american w/bad grammer.
Definite scam. The way this one works is they send you a check for more than the amount then ask you to cash the certified check and give the trucker the overpayment and they will get it back from the trucker when they deliver the product. You are out the merchandise and the cash in the end. I usually try and do a little Google search on the name to see what I can dig up. I have had this same scam show up on somthing I was selling and caught it through the search. I was selling patio furnture on Craig's List so it does not matter how big or small the product is be very careful who you deal with.
Tell them to send the check, but dont sign anything over till the check clears. My buddy sold a Harley that way to someone in Europe. I would bet it is a scam but who knows just dont sign anything until you have the money in hand.
