Report from 5/27/07 MHC
Well as luck would have it, Boxman needed a killing crew for Sat, Sun and Mon. My girl and I happily obliged his request for Sunday.
A little bumpy as the "weather man was hungover and laid up with his one legged ho and decided to take the day off and leave the forecast up to us.(MH 5/27/07)" It laid out as the day went on and stretched out the farther offshore we went.
Looked for bills until 1:30-1:45 put a lone mahi in the box that was hanging out in the deep water, then moved in on a nice lil edge. Between then and the time to head for the hill we put 11 dolphin in the belly of the "Wild Goose". Honestly, I think that spot could have put a few boat limits of mahi in the big fish box in the sky. We proceeded to clean up the boat and stow all the gear and got out the bean bags for the ride in.
On the way home we saw some nice flotsam and decided to give it a go. Put two lines out back and Box put the Goose into a nice bowed up turn to get the baits to fly right by the landscape timbers. The green sea chicken came right out from under the wood and headed right for the bait, I freespooled the reel and waited for it to speed up a bit put the lever up to strike and the rod loaded up. One more in the box. Pass #2 the process was repeated and we put one more in the box. Again we had to wash out the blood and stow the gear14 was the total and plenty of meat for all to put on the grill.
I cannot begin to explain the professional way of doing things that Marty and Jake carry with them every where they go. I felt like the reach toothbrush commercial Sunday with a flip top head and funnel stuck in there as I rec'd as much fishing info as one man could absorb.
Tires are going on the truck this week and the Short Bus will be offshore for meat and bills or inshore for cobia this coming weekend forecast pending.
Thank you for the beautiful day on the water Box and Jake. We both enjoyed it immensely. Got a nice bruise on my left ribcage from laying over the gunnel chasing a smaller gaffer down with the gaff. I will be standing up tall from now on. One fluid motion and wrap till he is dead
