Sat MHC report

With 3 dozen baits brined and ready to go from the night before we heeaded out this past Sat. Started out on a nice rip/grass line between the 90' Drop and a ledge I had marked just North of the NE corner of the Big Rock. Lines in 730 a.m. Gaffer on first line out then lost it. Had trouble keeping them buttoned as we lost the next three fish by 745 a.m.

8:00 I pulled in the witch/meat and put out dinks on the short, flat, and long with large hoos on B/W jags on the left and right and put the dredge down as we headed out to the deeper water looking a bill. Stayed out there for f ew hours. No luck.

Came back in on the rip we were on in the morning. Immediately jumped a sail. Stayed with the rip and followed it North the rest of the day in 200-280 feet of water. Ended up with 1 gigger and 7 gaffers, jumped another sail and lost something that smoked the 50.

My girl got on the wheel and I got in the pit with my buddy and got him use to dropping back and feeding everything once we lost the first few of the day and the numerous knockdowns from the meat fish. The hot baits were the naked dinks and the med hoos w/green lantern witches and Squidnation teasers of course

More experience with bills and the sails would have been released I suspect. Nice day except the for the ride back when the SW wind turned and started pushing against the NE swell. Made the bumpy 25 mile run back to the knuckle then had it at our stern quarter the last 18 miles to the inlet.

Sea Draggin got your message late Saturday and just waited and put the report here.

Nothing wrong with this report! Thanks Brian. Did you forget your camera? Girfriend driving the boat, mahis and bills and all, there should be plenty of picture opportunities?

think about it this way.....i bet you had more shots at bills in one day than some of the big rock boats had all week. not too shabby for a little CC single engine mosquito! pretty work.

Biscuit, girlfiriend had a camera and took some pics and Brad took some as well back at the hill. I always have had a superstition that me taking pictures equals no fish.

JMS, I felt exactly like a little bug tucked in middle of the big boys on top of their wake on the ride out all the while paying close attention to my distance and hoping I do not tick off the Captain. I got out from behind them all when they split at the slot. One boat the "First Crack", a 59 Spencer passed me like I was standing still and I was running 29 knots at that point

Back in the day when I used to fish out of OI, that boat and another one that runs with it, came past me like I was sitting still one day. I saw them off behind me, 5 minutes later they were next to me, 5 minutes later going out of sight. Didn't see them again till I got to the point.

By the way, I was very surprised to hear the top speed on the new 40 something express Spencer is building with IPS is only in the mid 30's. Priced out at 1.1 mil

I tucked in behind the "Rumor Mill" a 59 Spencer, a couple years back heading offshore. It was a little choppy, but I stayed with him up to about 33 knots. Captain King did not like being followed so he took off like he had another gear. He was out of sight within minutes.
Later that season, I got to run that Spencer after a day fishing. 27 knots on "economy cruise", 32 on fast. Tournament speed cruise for that boat was 36 knots. What a work of art! Captain King has since sold her and is building a new one currently. I can't wait to see the 2007 - 08 version.
The 43 Jim is talking about must be something special as well.
