    Sand Dollar Island

Alright guys, going to be down next weekend for some family and friends get together. Question...

Does anyone have the track or course that cuts through the sand bar to the back of sand dollar island in front of Beaufort?

I had it on a hand held gps but it is shot so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!!!

Not sure where you are talking about but if you are referring to the inside cut next to the isalnd in front of Beaufort NC, don't as it has closed in.

I ran over there this weekend in my 30' Grady. There is a slough coming in from the inlet side I ran it, don't have numbers just eyeballed it. What kind of boat are you in?

I can take either a 27 world cat or an 18' angler. Would like to go if I could, but don't want to take any chances.

I was over at Carrot Island on Memorial weekend and ran the old way in. Basically what i do is go between the red can bouy going into Beaufort (at the entrance to the channel) and the shoal toward the inlet. Head straight for the water tower. Cross the shoal and then hard right up next to the shoal itself. The water is deepest right up next to the shoal. When you get near the range marker, take it down the starboard side. Going in was on high tide, but coming out on low and had no problems. I was on a skiff, but did not see any water shallower than 4'. One thing to note is that Sand dollar is completely under water now on high tide. Basically as Capt Gorges said, read the water and don't run where it is brown!!!!
