    Unhappy Sad Sight.............

Headed out of OI with Alex on his boat and saw a 29 Ricky Scarborough that had sunk. It went down that morning when it hit something on the way out Sunday. It was a sad sight for sure. There was another boat that rescued the crew and they were tending the Scarborough when we went by. Then on the way back to Pirates cove Another Ricky the "Reel Affair" was grounded right outside the channel before you get to Wanchese. Sad to see that 29 under water out there.......

yea...we heard the rescure that morning and saw the boat floating nose up on the way in. They were lucky that other boat was around because from what I was hearing, it went down pretty quick. Sad sight for sure.....Never did hear what they hit....Bob

Never good to hear, but glad the crew is safe - Big thanks to the other boat for picking them up.

wow...certainly sad to hear, but glad the crew is safe!

Quick question about the grounded boat near Wanchese. Anything special there Mark, or did they just get out of the channel? Which side and where would be good to know as we run of of Broad Creek.

Hope you guys had good fishing!

Ed I don't know what he did !! There must have been some babes on the boat!! He was heading in and went aground east of the channel markers about one mile from the Wanchese turn. He was a good 50-75 yds outside the channel. There is a bar that pushes out from one of the Islands there. Earlier this year a 27 Albemarle grounded and sunk in the same spot. Nothing new for that area that bar has been there. I dont think there was much damage to the Reel Affair his motors were still running. Beautiful Boat.
I fished with Alex on their boat the TunaTeaser 5 YFTS and 9-10 dolphin....Mark

We went past the Reel Affair on the way in as well. There was a day marker well within sight and not very far away---- I guess he just got confused and perhaps thought he should be following intercoastal waterway markings instead of the normal red right returning.
We noticed the same boat was making way very slowly (at idle) on the way out when the fleet was leaving that morning.
Hopefully, he didn't tear too much up underneath.

When it blows hard SW with the tide running, that can be a surprisingly deceiving spot....I've been caught numerous times on the edge of that channel but certainly never that far over.

You'll think you're in the middle of the channel but when you check the gate behind you, the wind has really knocked you out of the channel, and FAST. Many boats have grounded around there, and it's normally one of the last boats in the "train". Bill's a good guy, hate that it happened. Hope they made out alright.

    Glenn- Who'd you fish with?

You want to favor the opposite (Green) side of the channel if possible, depending on traffic. There is a lot more water between that side and Wanchese than on the starboard side...
