Got fish
RunOff report-5/31/2010 UPDATED
Well, left the docks around 5am after much anticipation for some slaughtering. Headed out into some nice weather with my wife and two kids, Noah and Austin, and another friend, Brad, with nothing but killing on our minds. I tell you from the first step on the boat I knew my kids and my wife we welcomed. Sat down for the short ride out, boat slows and lines in the water. Bam, fish on, bam again, fish on. It was classic action from the start and for the guys keeping score, seven mahi in the boat at 7:23am. Guys I don't care who you are but that is game on from the beginning. And this, I may add was caught by a ten year old and a seven year old. I really cannot remember any adult reeling in but maybe a few fish in the first part of the onslaught, it was all about the kids and the crew made it about the kids and wanted the kids to succeed. This was without a doubt already a GREAT DAY and it's only 7:23, WOW what is going to happen when the day really starts.

From this time forward it was ON, Mahi on the short rigger, mahi on the left long, ballyhoo flying overhead casting to dolphin, "Let 'em eat, Let 'em eat", FISH ON!!!
My gracious it is "SMACKDOWN" on the Mahi, continously!!!
ARE YOU READY!!!!!

No Mahi is safe...

Had plenty of Mahi so the decision was made to push a little further out to try to find something different or bigger. Nothing can described what happens next. After picking up even more dolphin I here the famous words...
"Sailfish in the spread..." , BLAM... FISH ON.. Get someone in the chair...And Noah, my ten year old falls in for the fight...
Dude, he faught that fish like a champ, Brian was encouraging him every step..."Good job son, your doing great, keep cranking"... the fish is jumping, an aerial show like you have not seen even on tv. Fish is closer and all I hear is "crank, give Marty two feet", I mean TWO FEET FOR A RELEASE, that two feet was like a hundred feet, Brian working the boat, Noah reeling for his first Sailfish and Marty bent over the side trying to get to the leader. Everyone on the boat was thinking the same thing, we are so close, only two feet, can we make this happen for this young man, and the I hear Marty yell and I mean yell..."Leader, I got the Leader!!!" Guys it was nothing short of spectacular, nothing short of amazing of how they worked to give my son the chance of a lifetime, the chance at TEN to release his first saildog. What a thrill for him and for his mother and I.

Fish was then released to be caught another day, hopefully in the BARTA
Guys I cannot go into any words to describe the trip on Monday except to say it was spectacular. The treatment that was given to my family was exceptional. The way Brian not only ran the boat, but fished. I know this sounds crazy, but I have been on a lot of boats where the captian just drives, guys Brian is a true CAPTAIN, he cares about what he does, and he wants to be the best, and he is. The transcend onto the deck where Marty also wants to be the best, and is. It is a great team that gave our family a great time.
I can preach a hundred sermons, but as parents we only get a limited number of times and sometimes only one time to impress and teach a child the right way. On the boat they learned how to work together, how to take turns in the chair and how to have CONTROLLED chaos. This was teaching them the right way to handle themselves in situations. I wonder sometime because I am a very conservative person, but I realize that on my boat or on someone else's boat that when you go out, you go as a family, there are no phones, unless you take one, there is no where to go, you have quality time as a family on a boat. It was trully an epic day.
To my friend Brad that went to help with the kids and anything else, I say THANKS!!!
To Jake, "I SALUTE YOU AND THANK YOU" for all you do in the military. You are the very one's who allow my family and I to enjoy peace and to enjoy fishing and the things of AMERICA. THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE!!!
To Marty, My kids are still talking about all you did with them on the deck in letting them be a part of the trip. I THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart with the enthusiasm and love you expressed toward them.
To Brian, I THANK YOU for being a captain that trully wants to be a part of the people'e lives, if only for that one day on the water. You made a special day for my family and I.
In short...
THANKS TO YOU ALL FOR MAKING A GREAT DAY SPECIAL!!!!

Oh... almost forgot... did I mention 57 mahi, 1 Sailfish, 1 King

THAT MY FRIENDS IS GAME ON!!!
