Wow, what a weekend. We got to MHC around 10:00 on Thursday night. We fished for sheepshead on Friday and went to meet the boat when they got in that afternoon. Ponce and crew unloaded 23 nice mahi after taking a butt kicking with 10 to 12 foot waves. We were happy to here the wind would lay out and be a better day on Saturday. I was even more worried because I was bringing my 14 yr old stepson, Darren for his first trolling trip offshore. It was a bumpy ride out but Darren was doing fine. He even landed the first fish and I thought he was going to be O.K. but after about an hour the sea sickness hit him. Marty pulled me to the side and said "we are going to snap him out of it". He soaked a t-shirt in cold water and put it over his head and around his shoulders, then he put him in the fighting chair. The next 3 fish came one after the other and Darren reeled them all in. I watched as the color came back into his cheeks. Marty kept him so busy the rest of the day he didn't have time to think about being sea sick. He showed him how to pull down the riggers, set the flat lines and put ice on the fish. At the end of the day Marty and Capt. B presented Darren with an "award" for being so tough and not giving up. Marty, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you for that. He can not wait to go again. Now to the fishing report. 49 mahi fell to Marty's offerings including one fat albert and one stubborn bird! We even had one set where 5 nice gaffers hit the deck at one time! the pit looked like it had been painted red! I got some good pictures and video but I'm sure Gary got more than me. Thanks again team RUN OFF you guys rock!
I will try to edit my video and get it posted this week. Look for Gary's pictures and video as well. Thanks again guys, the fish is sealed and in the freezer and we'll be back next May for some more.
